Other aspects of Training
Trainees on both programmes participate in day trips, outings and other activities aimed at improving social skills and general life skills. Use of community facilities, public transport and attending and participating in community events is a very important part of the Training Programme. Examples of trips include – shopping trip to Waterford, trip to Wexford town Art exhibitions during 2007 Opera Festival, trip to Kilkenny Castle, trip to IMMA Dublin, trip to Croke Park, lunch in a local restaurant.
Both programmes are run over three years and are open to individuals over 16 years of age. Training is completely ‘person centred’ with programmes being tailored to meet individual needs and requirements. Trainees have the option of taking certain Junior Certificate Subjects and sitting the exams with help and support of the training team. Health and Fitness is also a large focus of the Training programme and participation in PE and various sports is actively encouraged.
The Training Centre has also become involved with other organisations such as the VEC to facilitate development and delivery of specific Training Course of interest to our students. We currently have a group of students participating on a FETAC Level 3 Childcare Course which is run as an integrated course by the VEC under the BTEI Programme.
Certification
Training Programmes are certified by FETAC, IAS and OCR (a British based standard). In March 2007 CWCW(E) Ltd became an approved FETAC Training Centre having had its Quality Assurance Procedures approved by FETAC. We are now delivering FETAC modules at Level 3 and intend developing new modules at Level 1 and Level 2. In June 2007 the Training Centre also received its Accreditation with a commendation from the NAC.
